Russia said on Thursday its artillery hit several Ukrainian positions and strongholds overnight, killing more than 600 fighters. “The armed forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine,” the Ministry of Defense said.
“More than 600 nationalists and 61 units of weapons and military equipment were destroyed.” The Defense Ministry also said its missiles had destroyed aviation equipment at Kanatovo airfield in central Ukraine’s Kirovohrad region and a large ammunition depot in the southern city of Mykolaiv.
Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24 in what it has called a special operation to degrade its southern neighbor’s military capabilities and eradicate people it has called dangerous Nazis and nationalists.
Ukrainian forces mounted strong resistance and the West imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia and citizens close to Vladimir Putin’s government in an effort to force it to withdraw its forces. NATO member countries have sent weapons and military equipment to Ukrainian forces.
