The Russian Defense Ministry reported this Wednesday (May 24) that the Russian warship Ivan Khurs was attacked by unmanned Ukrainian speedboats in the Black Sea, near the Bosphorus Strait.
In a statement published on Telegram, the ministry said the warship was protecting the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, which transport gas from Russia to Turkey, partly through the Black Sea.
“All enemy boats were destroyed by fire from standard armament from a Russian ship 140 km northeast of the Bosphorus,” the statement added.
Since the attacks that resulted in the destruction of the Kerch bridge, which connected Russia to Crimea, last October, there have been no records of clashes in the Black Sea. Until then, the Ukrainians’ focus was entirely on the battles to defend and later recover Bakhmut.
“Today, at 5:30 am, the Ukrainian armed forces made an unsuccessful attempt to attack with three unmanned speedboats the ship Ivan Khurs of the Black Sea Fleet, which is carrying out tasks to guarantee the safe operation of the TurkStream and Blue Stream gas pipelines. in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Turkey,” the statement said.
“All enemy boats were destroyed by fire from the standard armament of a Russian ship 140 kilometers northeast of the Bosphorus strait. The ship Ivan Khurs of the Black Sea Fleet continues to fulfill its tasks”, he continues.
