Russia says it will drastically reduce military activity in Kiev and Chernihiv

Russia has decided to drastically cut its military activity focused on Kiev and Chernihiv in Ukraine, its deputy defense minister said on Tuesday.

The announcement comes after talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams in Istanbul.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin confirmed “radically reducing military activity”, according to state media RIA.

“In order to increase mutual trust and create the necessary conditions for further negotiations and achieve the ultimate goal of agreeing to the signing of the agreement, the decision was taken to radically reduce military activity in the direction of Kiev and Chernigov for the time being.” , Fomin told reporters.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine previously said that “certain units” of Russia’s armed forces are withdrawing from the battlefronts in the capital Kiev and the northern city of Chernihiv.

“The Russian enemy has not achieved the objective of its offensive operation,” he said in an official Facebook update.

However, he warned of a “high risk” of Russian troops attacking military and civilian infrastructure. The Russian military, they claimed, is struggling to reinforce and rotate new soldiers.

In the fifth week of the Russian invasion, the “heroic” Ukrainian resistance is “conducting a defense operation in the east, southeast and northeast directions, constrain the enemy in all directions, in some directions – displace the enemy,” he said.
