“It is obvious that the airstrikes are deliberately designed to further inflame the conflict,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.
“By attacking, almost without pause, the facilities of allegedly pro-Iranian groups in Iraq and Syria, the United States is purposefully trying to expel the largest countries in the conflict region,” the statement added.
The United States has conducted strikes against 85 targets in Iraq and Syria, likely marking the beginning of a large-scale offensive against Iranian-backed militias responsible for attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East, according to two U.S. officials.
