His journey Zelenskyincluding the talks he will have with US President Joe Biden, provide an opportunity to describe and explain the real situation in Ukraine, what weapons the Kyiv to fight her Russia and the reasons why he needs them, according to Mykhailo Podoliak, the political adviser to the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky is traveling to Washington after yesterday, Tuesday, he visited the front in the city of Bakhmut, where some of the fiercest fighting has taken place in Ukraine since the invasion of Russia on February 24, reports APE-MPE.

“The official visit of Mr. Zelensky on USA, which began immediately after his visit to the hottest spot in the war – Bahamut – is highly symbolic. And extremely important,” says Podoliak in comments he made in writing to Reuters.

“Firstly, both the visit itself and the level of planned meetings unequivocally testify to the high degree of trust between the countries. Secondly, this puts an end to the efforts of the Russian side (…) to demonstrate an alleged growing coldness in our bilateral relations,” he adds.

Russia’s description of Ukraine-US relations is “not even remotely close” to reality, he notes. “The US categorically supports Ukraine,” he emphasizes.

Podoliak also says that Zelensky will be able to show the American political elite “the real scale” of the war, its true nature, and the importance of ending it the right way – that is, with the correct terms. Also “guns, guns and more guns. It is important to personally explain why we need certain types of weapons. In particular, armored vehicles, the latest anti-missile defense systems and long-range missiles,” he adds.

Zelensky will explain why providing Ukraine with such weapons will not lead to an escalation of the war, but will sharply reduce Russia’s military capabilities, he emphasizes.

“In my view, the visit will undoubtedly activate and improve important areas infood cooperationwill further mobilize bipartisan political support and provide a clearer picture of the future if the war is not ended in the right way,” Podoliak concludes.
