Russia says Trump holds talks on Ukraine peace deal

The Kremlin said on Monday (25) that it noticed that US President-elect Donald Trump’s circle is talking about a possible peace plan for Ukraine, while the current administration of Joe Biden is not and instead Furthermore, it tries to escalate the conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the comments after being asked to comment on an interview that Mike Waltz, Trump’s pick for national security adviser, gave to Fox News on Sunday.

Waltz said Trump is “very concerned” about the escalation of fighting between Russia and Ukraine and that the war should be brought “to a responsible end.”

Waltz noted what he said was the involvement of North Korea and Iran in the conflict, Moscow’s use of a hypersonic ballistic missile against Ukraine and the decision by some Western countries to allow Kiev to fire its missiles deep into Russia. He added that South Korea was considering getting involved as well.

“What we need to discuss is who is at the table, whether it is an agreement, an armistice, how to bring both sides to the table and what the structure of an agreement is,” said Waltz.

Peskov said the Kremlin was aware of the comments and that President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly signaled that Moscow is ready for dialogue on Ukraine.

“Indeed, from the circle of Trump supporters and those who have been nominated for future positions in the future administration, the word ‘peace’ or ‘peace plan’ is being heard,” said Peskov, when asked about Waltz’s comments.

“None of these words are being heard from the current (Biden) administration while the provocatively escalating actions continue. This is the reality we face,” he said.

Putin explained in June what he wants to start peace talks – for Ukraine to give up its NATO membership ambitions and hand over all four provinces claimed by Moscow.

Russia says the terms reflect reality on the battlefield, where Russian forces are advancing. But Ukraine says such terms would amount to an unacceptable capitulation to Kiev.
