Russia: Scientist of Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Engineering arrested for ‘treason’

Russian authorities have arrested another scientist in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk, whom they accuse of “treason”, Reuters reported, citing Russia’s Tass.

Anatoly Maslov, the chief scientist of the Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Engineering was arrested and taken to a Moscow prison as part of an investigation by the FSB intelligence service, according to Tass citing a source close to the investigations.

Masloff is believed to have handed over “data that is a state secret,” the same source added, clarifying that the data was related to ultrasound technology.

Several Russian media reported that Maslov was arrested on June 28. Reuters was unable to verify this information.

Also arrested this week was Dmitry Kolker, a doctor of physics and mathematics at Novosibirsk State University, on charges of treason for allegedly working with China’s security services.

The treason charge carries a 20-year prison sentence.
