Russia: “Sign of panic” the partial mobilization announced by Putin

Germany considers the Russian attack on Ukraine unsuccessful, it said today representative of German Chancellor Olaf Scholzreacting on Russia’s announcement of partial mobilization. “This announcement shows that the Russian attack on Ukraine has not been successful,” Wolfgang Bichner said during a regular press conference from Berlin. And it also demonstrates that Ukraine defends itself effectively “thanks to the massive support (…) of many countries, including Germany,” he added.

At the same time, the government representative emphasized that the referendums, which the separatists want to hold in Donetsk and Luhansk provinces for the integration of these regions into Russia, will never be recognized.

A little earlier the German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck criticized the decree of the Russian president Vladimir Putin about partial conscription, characterizing this development “serious and bad step”.

“With the partial mobilization Russia is pursuing a policy of escalating this war of aggression in violation of international law. This is a serious and bad step which we strongly condemn”, Hambeck, who is also Germany’s Minister of Economy, reacted on Twitter.

On his part, Mr Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte considers that this decision by Moscow is an indication of the panic prevailing in the Kremlin, adding that it should not be considered an immediate threat of full-scale war with the West.

“The conscription, the demand for a referendum in Donetsk, all are signs of panic. His (S.P. Putin’s) rhetoric about nuclear weapons is something we have heard many times in the past and it does not affect us,” Rutte emphasized, speaking to the Dutch NOS network.

“It’s all part of the rhetoric we know. I would recommend keeping cool,” he added.

However, the Polish counterpart of Mateusz Morawiecki he was harsher, believing that Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine and change its borders.

“We will do everything we can in cooperation with our allies so that NATO supports it Ukraine even more so that it can defend itself,” he underlined, calling on the West to provide more help to Kyiv, as reported by Reuters and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

“Information about partial mobilization confirmed, Russia will try to destroy Ukraine and seize part of its territory. We cannot allow this,” Morawiecki added during Polish military training exercises with British and American troops in the eastern part of the country
