Russia tells Germany there will be a third round of talks with Ukraine this weekend

Russian President Vladimir Putin told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that a third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled for this weekend, according to the German chancellery following a phone call between the two heads of state this week. Friday (4).

The second round of talks held on Thursday did not deliver the results Ukraine needed, a Ukrainian negotiator said after the meeting ended. However, humanitarian corridors for civilians were agreed during the meeting.

“Unfortunately, the results that Ukraine needs have not yet been achieved. There is only one solution for organizing humanitarian corridors,” senior Ukrainian official Mykhailo Podolyak said in a tweet.

After Thursday’s meeting, it was reported that the third round to discuss the ceasefire of the war, which has taken place since February 24, would be held early next week. Ukraine has yet to confirm the weekend round of talks.

“We discussed three points extensively – military, international and humanitarian, and the third is a question of future political regulation of the conflict. Both positions are clear and written. We managed to reach an agreement on some of them, but the main one we reached agreement on today was the rescue of civilians who found themselves in a military confrontation zone”, declared the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky.

“The Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries have agreed to provide humanitarian corridors for civilians and a possible temporary ceasefire in areas where evacuation is taking place,” it continued.

These meetings are held by Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Belarus. There are 11 men chosen to try to reach an agreement on behalf of both countries. Among those chosen are a politician who has been involved in a sex scandal, an adviser who believes that Russians have an extra chromosome, a famous lawyer, a polyglot and a politician who likes to appear wearing a cap.
