Russia: The editor-in-chief of Putin’s “favorite newspaper” died “suddenly”

The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Komosomolskaya Pravda, Vladimir Sungorkin, died at the age of 68. An ally of the Russian president Vladimir PutinSungorkin suffered a stroke during a business trip to the Khabarovsk region, a Russian newspaper reporter told the Interfax news agency, according to Newsweek.

“Vladimir Nikolaevich died. They suspect a stroke. He was on a business trip to Khabarovsk. Now we are organizing his transfer to Moscow,” said Alexander Gamov.

Komsomolskaya Pravda in a statement on its Telegram account noted that Sungorkin “died suddenly” during a trip to gather material for a book he planned to write.

The newspaper has been described as the “favourite” of Vladimir Putin. It was first released in 1925.

The representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov in a statement he spoke of “a huge loss. “Today’s news is sad, unfortunately he has passed away. We knew him very well,” he said.

However, the British one Daily Mail comments that the death of the 68-year-old is the latest in a series of deaths of Putin allies who have died under mysterious circumstances. Last on this tragic list is 39-year-old Ivan Pechorin who died after falling from a ship in Vladivostok.
