Russia to Lithuania: Immediate lifting of the ban on land transport of Russian goods to Kaliningrad

LAST UPDATE: 15.16

Russia on Monday demanded that Lithuania immediately end its ban on land (via Lithuanian territory) transporting certain goods from mainland Russia to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea, according to Reuters.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has told the Lithuanian delegation to Moscow that if the shipment of Russian cargo to Kaliningrad from the bulk of the Russian Federation’s territory is not restored, Moscow will take steps to safeguard its interests.

Lithuanian authorities have banned the transport of Russian goods and goods under the European Union’s sanctions regime through Lithuanian territory, through which the only railway line connecting mainland Russia with Kaliningrad passes.

Prohibited products and goods include coal, metals, construction materials and advanced technology products or components.

Ukraine: Russia has no right to threaten Lithuania

“Russia has no right to threaten Lithuania,” said Dmitry Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister.

“We welcome the Lithuanian position and strongly support our Lithuanian friends,” he added in a Twitter post.
