Russia to reduce gas supplies to Europe through Ukraine

Russian energy giant Gazprom said it would cut natural gas supplies to Europe from Monday, reducing the flow of a gas pipeline through Ukraine.

On its official telegram account, the state-owned company reported that gas destined for Moldova is being held back in Ukraine, so it will reduce supplies to the Sudzha pipeline to make up the difference.

“The volume of gas supplied by Gazprom to GIS Sudzha for transit to Moldova through the territory of Ukraine exceeds the physical volume transmitted at the Ukraine-Moldova border,” he said.

“By maintaining the imbalance of transit through Ukraine for Moldovan consumers, on November 28, from 10:00 am, Gazprom will start to reduce the supply of gas to Sudzha GIS for transit through Ukraine in the amount of daily sub-delivery,” the company added. .

Europe scrambled to restock its winter stocks this year when Russia drastically cut its pipeline gas flows, including halting all shipments through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in September.

But a bigger challenge could come in the spring, as Europe tries to replenish its stocks with a much-reduced supply of Russian pipeline gas. Flows to Europe are just 20% of their pre-war levels, according to research firm Wood Mackenzie.
