Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange 40 prisoners of war, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova said on Wednesday after meeting her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Lubinets in Turkey.
Moskalkova and Lubinets met at an international ombudsman conference in Ankara. The photos showed them sitting on opposite sides of a table.
The initial conversations lasted about 40 minutes. A second round started at 09:00 (local time).
When they met, a battle was being fought over the small town of Soledar in eastern Ukraine.
Earlier, Moskalkova had said on the messaging app Telegram that she and Lubinets had discussed humanitarian assistance for citizens of Russia and Ukraine.
Later, they were due to visit the Turkish presidential palace, where President Tayyip Erdogan was due to deliver a speech to the conference at 11:30 am (local time).
A Turkish source said Moskalkova and Lubinets could discuss a humanitarian corridor and the plight of children who fled the war.
Russia and Ukraine have carried out numerous prisoner exchanges – most recently on Sunday – during the war, which is now in its 11th month.
