Russia: Ukrainian Personnel Operate Chernobyl, Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plants

The Ukrainian nuclear power plants at Chernobyl and Zaporizhia, which are now under the control of Russian forces, are run and operated by Ukrainian personnel, Russia’s Atomic Energy Agency said on Saturday, according to Reuters, citing the Russian news agency. RIA.

Rosatom’s announcement said that the external power supply to the decommissioned Chernobyl plant was being restored with the help of Russian experts.

He also said that the activities to ensure safety in the factories are carried out in coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Ukraine had warned of an increased risk of Chernobyl leaks if its high-voltage line, which had been damaged during the fighting, was not repaired.

The Ukrainian state nuclear company Energoatom said on Friday that the staff of Zaporizhia, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, was under strong psychological pressure from the Russians present.

The IAEA said this week that it had lost contact with the remote nuclear monitoring systems at Chernobyl and Zaporizhia, and its head, Rafael Grossi, expressed concern that staff might be working under unwarranted pressure.
