Russia: Urgently seeking US response to security demands

Russia today said it urgently needed a response from the United States to its security demands and warned of a possible Russian military response if it did not see political action to allay its concerns.

Moscow, which has raised fears in the West with its military deployment near Ukraine, last week unveiled a list of security-related proposals it wants to negotiate, including a promise that NATO will give up any military activity in Eastern Europe and Ukraine.

Washington said some of Russia’s proposals were clearly unacceptable, but added that the United States would respond sometime this week with more specific proposals on the format of any talks.

Konstantin Gavrilov, a Russian diplomat in Vienna, said relations between Moscow and NATO had reached a “moment of truth”.

“The debate must be serious and everyone in NATO fully understands that, despite their power, concrete political action is needed, otherwise the alternative is a military-technical and military response from Russia,” Gavrilov was quoted as saying by the news agency. RIA.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow had not yet received a response from the United States.

“I think they will try to turn it into a slow-moving process, but we need it to be urgent, because the situation is very difficult, it is acute, it tends to become more complicated,” Ryabkov was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
