Russia uses equipment from Belarus for support in eastern Ukraine, says UK

In its latest intelligence update released on Sunday, the UK Ministry of Defense said Russian forces in Ukraine were directing supplies provided by its ally Belarus to the eastern region of the country, where attacks are intensifying.

“Russian forces continue to redeploy combat equipment and support from Belarus to eastern Ukraine. This includes locations near Kharkiv and Severdonetsk,” the intelligence report said. “Russian artillery continues to attack Ukrainian positions across the east of the country, where Russia plans to renew its offensive.”

“Although Russia’s operational focus has shifted to eastern Ukraine, the ultimate goal remains the same,” he added. “Asserting its dominance in the region, committed to forcing Ukraine to abandon its Euro-Atlantic orientation.”

Belarus has been used as a springboard for many of Russia’s air operations in Ukraine, according to information gathered by NATO surveillance planes.
