Russia: Video of a gunman who opened fire at a recruitment center

A gunman opened fire at a recruitment center in the Irkutsk region of Russia and a short time later he was arrested. The gunman, who is seen in a video posted on social media telling officers he is 25-year-old Ruslan Zinin appears to shoot at least once inside the recruiting center. Reuters reports that it was unable to confirm the videos.

The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, wrote on the Telegram messaging app that the head of the recruiting center, “military commissar Alexander Eliseyev,” he is in hospital in critical condition and that the perpetrator of the shootings has been arrested “and will definitely be punished”.

Recruiting centers have come under attack since the Russian president Vladimir Putin declared partial conscription last Wednesday. Anti-conscription demonstrations took place over the weekend in Dagestan and Yakutia, regions that have both contributed disproportionate numbers of soldiers to the war in Ukraine.
