Russia wants to create a unified video surveillance system with data from all cameras in the country

The Government of the Russian Federation is discussing the issue of creating an information system “National Video Surveillance Platform”, which should combine all data received from city cameras from all over the country. According to Kommersant, they plan to develop such a system within 5 years, the project is estimated at 250 billion rubles. The main developers will be the National Technologies enterprise, owned by Rostec and Rostelecom. In this case, the structures of the first will be responsible for the hardware, and the second – for the software.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation said that the idea of creating a unified system was discussed at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on the implementation of the Safe City hardware and software complex.

Sources say that the platform will follow the example of Moscow, but with a different approach. At the moment, city cameras send continuous streams to data centers, which requires too many data centers. In the new system, it is planned to equip cameras with computing modules, which will allow locally to recognize incidents and only then send data to the data center.
