Russia: Warning to Baltic states to ensure security of its embassies

Moscow today called on the authorities of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to “take action” to protect Russian embassies after a Russian diplomat was attacked in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, Reuters reported quoting Reuters.

“We warn Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn that they are responsible for the consequences of the anti-Russian psychosis they have unleashed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the source, “a Russian diplomat in the Lithuanian capital was attacked using physical force” while “attempts were made to put pressure on the ambassador”.

Last week, Lithuanian public television broadcast that the third secretary of the Russian embassy had been beaten on the night of February 24 near the embassy, in the yard of a house. The channel cited a police spokesman as its source.

The beating came as about 10,000 people gathered outside the Russian embassy to express their support for Ukraine, after the Russian invasion began earlier. A suspect was arrested and the diplomat refused medical help, the spokeswoman added.
