Russia today called on the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office to discuss Ukraine. Moscow has warned that otherwise the meetings will be short.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and Foreign Secretary Liz Tras are expected to travel to Moscow this week in yet another attempt to de-escalate tensions between Russia and Ukraine as there are fears of a Russian invasion of the neighboring country.
Moscow has denied that it intends to do so and has made a number of demands to the West, including a commitment that Ukraine will not join NATO. The West has threatened Russia with sanctions in the event of an invasion of Ukraine.
Russia’s ambassador to London, Andrei Kelin, has said that Moscow is interested in holding talks with Britain if it is to submit constructive proposals that address Russia’s security concerns, according to TASS and Reuters.
“If they come to Russia to threaten us with sanctions again, then it is rather useless: we read everything, we see everything, we know and we hear. “In this case, the dialogue with Moscow will probably be quite short,” he commented.
