“The very fact of discussing the possibility of sending certain contingents from NATO countries to Ukraine is a very important new element,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists when asked about Macron's remarks.
Asked by reporters what the risks of a direct Russia-Nato conflict would be if NATO members sent their troops to fight in Ukraine, Peskov said: “In that case, we would need to talk not about the probability, but about the inevitability (of a direct conflict).”

The deployment of Western troops to Ukraine “cannot be ruled out”, said French President Emmanuel Macron this Monday (26), after organizing a conference in Paris, where European leaders discussed the prospect.
“There was no agreement tonight to officially send troops to the field, but we cannot exclude anything,” he told reporters.
The Ukraine aid conference brought together representatives from the 27 member countries of the European Union, including 21 heads of state and government, he announced.
“We will do everything we can to prevent Russia from winning this war. And I say this with determination, but also with the collective humility that we need to have, in light of the last two years”, she warned.
“The people who said 'never' today [sobre envio de tropas] were the same ones who said never to [envio de] planes, long-range missiles, trucks. They said all this two years ago,” he commented.
“A lot of people at this table said 'we're going to provide helmets and sleeping bags,' and now they're saying we need to do more to get missiles and tanks. We have to be humble and realize that we are always six to eight months late”, said Macron.
The French head of state also announced that a new coalition will be created to supply medium and long-range “missiles and bombs” to Ukraine.
European Union leaders and government representatives “decided to step up the ammunition side and produce tangible results very quickly” in the eight coalitions that already exist, Macron said.
