Against West the Kremlin is once again taking sides, warning it that if it sends long-range weapons to Ukraine, capable of striking deep into Russian territory, it will cause a dangerous escalation of war.
“It is potentially very dangerous, it will mean that the conflict will reach another level, which does not bode well for European security“, said Dmitry Peskov as reported by the Athens News Agency.
The Kremlin spokesman referred to the possibility of giving Kyiv “weapons that would allow it to strike Russian territory”, although “the Ukraine already has weapons which it uses to launch strikes on Russian soil every day.”
Peskov made these comments following the statements of the Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, who assured that Moscow will “destroy” any weapon delivered by Washington and NATO to Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war, the West has refused to give long-range missiles to Kyiv, fearing an escalation.
Moscow, however, accuses the Ukrainian military of launching drone strikes in Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula it has annexed, and against targets in Russia hundreds of kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
At the same time, Peskov noted that the sooner Ukraine takes Russia’s demands into account, the sooner the war will end.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, Moscow will achieve its goals “one way or another” and Kyiv would be better off accepting the Russian position and sitting at the negotiating table.
“The sooner the Ukrainian regime appears ready to heed Russia’s demands, which will be achieved one way or the other, the sooner it will all be over and the sooner the people of Ukraine will begin to recover from the tragedy that started the Kiev regime,” Peskov underlined.
