Russian authorities suggest not issuing new payment orders to holders of Russian Eurobonds (Russian government bonds issued outside Russia and valued in foreign currency) if Russian holders of such bonds do not receive their payments, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. “Currently, due to the continuing violations of the rights of Russian Eurobond holders by the international clearing and payment system, Eurobond coupon payments are received only by those bondholders registered in the international accounting system,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The money does not reach the Russian Eurobond holders,” he added.
In order to protect the interests of Russian investors, the Russian authorities propose early repayment of the value of Eurobonds in rubles, through the infrastructure of the Russian market, the Ministry concludes.
