“Russia will do anything to destroy normal life,” says Zelensky on energy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said international assistance will be vital to overcome Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, highlighting diplomatic efforts to counter Moscow’s attacks in his evening speech on Tuesday.

“We will do everything we can to provide people with electricity and heat this winter,” Zelensky said. “But we must understand that Russia will do everything to destroy the normality of life.”

Zelensky repeated his regular call for air defenses to protect Ukraine and revealed that he discussed “very specific projects both to strengthen our defense and to rebuild the destroyed facilities” during a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Also on Tuesday, Zelensky met with Kadri Simson, the European Commission’s top energy official, and the pair agreed to “many working arrangements,” he said.

Russia’s missile and drone attacks have seriously damaged more than 30% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the European Commission said in a statement on Tuesday, and the attack continues.

“Terrorists’ winter bet is completely transparent to everyone, and this challenge should rightly be seen as a challenge for the whole of Europe,” Zelensky said. “Moscow will use any winter hardships as supposed proof of the failure of a united Europe.”

“They have no hope on the battlefield. Ukrainian warriors have already proved it,” added the Ukrainian president.

“But it takes time, it takes effort, it takes patience to prove that even hope on account of winter will not come true for Russian terrorists. I’m sure we’ll get through this.”
