The head of the state corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin instructed RSC Energia to develop a plan for increasing the production of manned spacecraft Soyuz MS for the development of space tourism. According to Rogozin, the plans include the creation of up to four ships per year.
Previously, RSC Energia manufactured four Soyuz MS spacecraft per year under the Federal Space Program and international contracts for the delivery of foreign astronauts to the ISS. After NASA began sending its astronauts to the space station in SpaceX ships, the need for four ships was no longer needed. Now Roskosmos has increased its cosmonaut crews to three people. Moreover, Russia has resumed flights of space tourists – two Japanese citizens were recently sent to the ISS. According to Rogozin, space tourism brings money, which is spent on modernizing the rocket and space industry.
It is worth recalling that Russia is a pioneer in space tourism. From 2001 to 2021, nine tourists went into space on board the Soyuz spacecraft, one of them twice.
