The State Corporation “Roscosmos” spoke about the project of the space complex of the multifunctional system of personal satellite communications and data transmission “Gonets” of a new generation.
Ivan Danilov, lead project manager, said the work is progressing according to schedule. According to the project, it is planned to manufacture several dozen small spacecraft of a new generation. The satellites will be located in a low circular orbit at an altitude of 1500 km above the Earth. The constellation of 32 spacecraft will have to ensure the continuous provision of telephony and data transmission services on the territory of Russia. The source writes that the Gonets system of the new generation will be able to provide services for 40,000 subscribers of mobile satellite communications.
It was also noted that the period of active use of new spacecraft will be ten years: “This guaranteed service life is twice as long as that of the Messengers, which are currently operating in orbit.” In addition, new satellites will have to improve the quality of communication services.
Their key features are increased throughput and increased footprint. This will provide communication in the S- and P-frequency bands by an order of magnitude more subscribers, increase the amount of transmitted data, and expand the geography of the system.
