United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to talk on the morning of Monday (19).
According to the announcement made by the US leader on Saturday (17), the conversation – by telephone – should mainly treat the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has lasted more than three years and is called by Trump a “blood bath”. The call is scheduled to take place at 10am (local time).
“I hope it is a productive day, that there is a ceasefire and that this violent war, a war that should never have happened, end,” the American added in Saturday’s post.
After conversation with Putin, Trump should also talk to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as several members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
On Sunday (18), Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz even said that he, along with the UK leaders (Keir Stmerer), France (Emmanuel Macron) and Poland (Donald Tusk), intended to talk to Trump before their connection with Putin. The matter was allegedly discussed with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the Mass at the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate in the Vatican.
Last week, the first direct negotiations between the two countries were held in three years after pressure from US President Donald Trump to end Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.
The expectations of an advance, already low, were even more shaken on Thursday (15), when Trump said there would be no advance without a meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
