The Ilyushin-76 A50U and MiG-31K jets were seen in the “sky of Belarus” during Friday’s airstrikes in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.
The MiG-31K can carry a “Kinzal” missile. The missile is hypersonic and therefore difficult to intercept. However, the statement does not clarify whether “Kinzal” was used in the attacks.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces suggested that the general strikes were “peculiar”, as the missiles were not only fired from the Caspian Sea, but “also from the Saratov region, in the Engels area, where the bombers are based”.
The statement went on to state that missiles were also launched from the Black Sea by the frigate “Admiral Marakov” of the Russian navy.
In addition, 27 S-300 missiles were used.
Last week there was an explosion at the Engels air base within the Russian Federation. The Russians blamed the Ukrainians for the attack. Ukraine has never admitted carrying out the attack.
Earlier this week, Belarus announced nationwide military drills, and President Vladimir Putin will meet Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko next week.
