Russia’s ambassador to Turkey said on Wednesday that his country appreciates Ankara’s stance on compliance with the Montreux Strait Convention.
Alexei Gerhof commented to Haberturk’s diplomatic correspondent Sena Alkan on the Russian war in Ukraine.
Stressing that the Montreux Strait Convention is also closely related to it, Gerhoff said: “I must also say that we appreciate Turkey’s attitude towards the protection and compliance with the Montreux Convention, an important document of international law.”
“I believe that together we can reach a situation where all our interests, all our wishes can be realized,” he said, noting that Russia is in constant contact with the Turkish authorities over the use of Montreux and the Straits.
