The Russian forces expelled Ukrainian soldiers from almost the entire Kursk region, Russian army leader Valeri Gerasimov said today. “Most of the area where the invasion took place has now been cleared,” Gerimov told Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting broadcast on television. “It’s 1,260 square kilometers, 99.5%,” he added. Russia has been trying to repel Ukrainian forces from Kursk since last August, after their unexpected invasion that put Putin in a difficult position. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski hoped that he would get a negotiating paper in future talks on ending the war. Gerasimov informed Putin about developments on the front – which the Reuters agency was unable to verify from independent sources – and shortly afterwards the Russian president declared a 30 -hour Easter truce.
