Russian authorities arrested nationalist and critic of Vladimir Putin, Igor Girkin

The well-known Russian nationalist Igor Girkin arrested by the Russian authorities, according to what his wife said today. This shows how the authorities may have grown weary of his own criticism of the Moscow for the conduct of “special military operation» of Ukraine.

Girkin, also known as Igor Strelkov, helped Russia annex Crimea in 2014 and then to organize pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier this year, the former Federal Security Service (FSB) officer said he would enter politics, while he was increasingly critical of President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu over what he claimed was the inappropriate way Moscow is conducting what it calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine.

In a message posted on Girkin’s official Telegram account by his wife, Miroslava Reginskaya, she said: “Today, around 11:30, representatives of the Investigative Committee came to our house. I wasn’t at home. Soon, according to the gatekeeper, they took my husband by the arms and took him in an unknown direction».

She said friends told her how Girkin is accused of extremism. “I don’t know anything about my husband’s whereabouts, he hasn’t contacted me,” she said.

Currently there is no comment from the authorities, according to the Athens Agency.
