Russian ‘bazaar’: If sanctions are lifted, we will let ships sail with food from Ukrainian ports

LAST UPDATE: 11.41

Russia is ready to offer a humanitarian corridor for ships carrying food to leave Ukraine, Interfax news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko as saying today, urging Kyiv to ports on the Black Sea.

“The solution to the food problem lies in a collective approach, which mainly includes the lifting of sanctions on Russian exports and economic transactions,” Rudenko said.

Russia will discuss the possibility of exchanging prisoners with Ukraine after convicted prisoners have been handed over, the Russian deputy minister also said. Russians and their allies, separatist officials, have said some of those who surrendered should be tried for war crimes.

He added that it was premature to set up a Russian military base in the Russian-controlled Ukrainian region of Kherson.

Moscow: The port of Mariupol is operating normally

Russia’s Defense Ministry also announced on Wednesday that the port of Mariupol, which was occupied by Russia after a three-month siege, is operating normally.

The ministry said Russia was in contact with the United Nations and that Moscow “does not rule out the possibility of global talks on the unblocking of Ukrainian ports.”
