Russian bloggers demanded $1 billion from extremist Meta

The Council of Bloggers under the Federation Council drafted and sent a letter of complaint to Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). This was announced by the founder of the council of bloggers Valery Rytvina at a round table in the Public Chamber.

Russian bloggers demanded billion from extremist Meta

In their letter, Russian bloggers demand compensation in the amount of one billion dollars to users and entrepreneurs affected by the blocking of the social network Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as an extremist organization in Russia, banned and blocked in Russia), who have lost their main source of income.

In addition, bloggers demand that the Meta administration publicly apologize to the citizens of Russia. The appeal notes:

The compensation paid will be used to support individuals and legal entities that have suffered losses as a result of the illegal actions of Meta Platforms Inc.”

Rytvina emphasized:

Millionaire bloggers will be able to start everything from scratch – they have the financial means, their own team. But do not forget that single mothers, people with disabilities and other vulnerable categories of the population work on Instagram.”

If compensation is not paid, bloggers intend to go to court. According to Rytvina, the council has not yet decided which court to send the claim to – Russian or American.

Rytvina also told reporters that in February last year, Meta promised to pay out exactly $1 billion in Australia following the local media scandal, which saw the removal of all Australian news media posts on Facebook before legislation was passed requiring media to pay publishers for content.

Meta officials have not yet responded to these demands.
