During a spacewalk lasting 7 hours and 43 minutes, Artemiev and Matveev, together with cosmonaut Sergei Korsakov, turned on the ERA remote manipulator for the first time.

Before that, Oleg Artemiev and Denis Matveev dismantled covers of screen-vacuum thermal insulation from the ERA manipulator on the outer surface of the Nauka multi-purpose laboratory module, prepared two of its end effectors (“hands” of the manipulator arm) and an elbow, and also installed three new handrails .

Sergey Korsakov, using the ERA internal control panel, undocked the KE2 end effector from the starting rigging point, turned the ERA hand to provide access to the TRM drive, and then to the locks of the manipulator attachment system. The next important task was to move the manipulator to the base flight points (special platforms, clinging to which the hand can “walk” around the station) of the Science module.

In addition, Oleg Artemiev and Denis Matveev unfurled a copy of the Banner of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on the Science module on the eve of Victory Day. Artemyev proposed the idea to take the Banner into outer space a few days ago, and his initiative was supported at all levels.
