Russian forces launched a massive drone attack at night in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, injuring 21 people and damaging residential buildings and storage facilities, emergency services and authorities reported Thursday (27).
Emergency services said in the Telegram messaging app that the attacks caused four fires in the second largest city in Ukraine and posted photos of firefighters fighting the flames next to piles of rubble.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated that it slaughtered 42 of the 86 drones launched by Russia during the attack. Another 26 devices did not reach their targets, probably due to the air defense system, he added.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov said the attack has damaged several homes, an apartment building, cars and a unit of production in the city, a frequent target of the Russian military, located about 30 km from the border.
In the city of Zolochiv, the attack set fire to household items and injured eight people, including a child, he continued.
“No country should go through this,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday (26). “And in this context, talking about relieving pressure on Russia, suspending sanctions and so on is definitely inappropriate and useless.”
The United States announced separate agreements with Ukraine and Russia on Tuesday (25) to pause attacks on the Black Sea and against each other’s energy targets, but the rhetoric of Moscow and Kiev suggested that they remained distant.
A drone attack also caused fires in central Dnipro, where he injured three people, regional governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram.
The Reuters of the Scene video showed emergency services fighting flames and providing help to a resident wounded by shards.
The offensive damaged more than 10 apartment buildings and 60 vehicles, as well as companies and cultural facilities, Lysak added.
Night attacks also left one of the front line communities in the Zaporizehzia region without energy and connectivity, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported.
He did not specify the type of weapon used in this attack or the damage caused in the community.
