Russian drones and missiles cause fires and hurt eight in Kiev, says Mayor

Russia attacked the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, on the morning of this Saturday (24), with drones and missiles, causing fires, scatter wreckage in neighborhoods from the city.

At least eight people were injured according to the Mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko.

Reuters witnesses saw several drones flying over Kiev and a series of explosions that hit the city.

The mayor reported that two Residents needed medical attention and which Ukrainian air defense units were in action.

Klitschko said fragments of a drone have reached the top floor of an apartment building in the district of Solomyanskyi, on the west bank of the Dnipro River, which cuts the city in half.

The attack also left buildings – residential and commercial – on fire in the area.

In addition, Timur Tkachenko, head of the Military Administration of Kievsaid that a fire occurred in two floors of a residential building in the Dniprovskyi district, on the opposite bank.

Authorities also reported an obolon fire in the northern suburbs of the city. Wreckage were lying in a mall in the same area. Drone fragments have hit the ground in several other distant neighborhoods.

An air warning remained in force more than two hours after being declared for the first time.

Night attacks occurred after several days of Ukrainian drone attacks – about 800 – against targets within Russia, including the capital Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Minister of Foreign AffairsSergei Lavrov, promised on Friday (23) to respond to these attacks.
