Russian fighter jet escorts US spy plane over Black Sea

Russia has launched a Su-30 fighter jet that rushed to escort a US R-8A reconnaissance aircraft over neutral waters in the Black Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, noting that the US aircraft did not violate borders of the Russian Federation.

“After the removal of the foreign military aircraft from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter successfully returned to the airport of its base,” the statement said.

The incident comes amid Western concerns about the concentration of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.

A day earlier, Russian Su-27 fighters had also taken off to escort French and US military aircraft during their flight over the Black Sea.
