Russian fighter jet fires missile near British spy in Black Sea – What they said from Moscow

One Russian fighter jet on September 29 fired a missile near a British spy plane patrolling international airspace over the Black Sea, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace announced today.

Wallace told Parliament that Russia had blamed the incident on a technical malfunction, with the British minister stressing that British aircraft were now escorted by fighter jets.

He added that the Britain suspended patrols after the incident and how he expressed the government’s concerns to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“The response of the Russian Defense Minister on October 10 stated that they were conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and stated that it was a technical malfunction of the SU-27 fighter,” said Wallace.

“They also acknowledged that the incident took place in international airspace,” he added.

The patrols are now escorted by fighters, the British minister said, stressing that the United Kingdom’s allies have been informed.

According to his assessment, he does not consider the incident to be a deliberate escalation.

“We don’t think this is a deliberate escalation by the Russians, our analysis would agree that it was a malfunction,” Wallace said.

“However, this is a reminder of how dangerous things can become when one chooses to use fighters in the way the Russians have done over many periods of time.”

At the same time, he stressed that there is no reason to worry about his urgent trip to meet allies in the US.

Asked about the visit to Washington, Wallace said: “I went to the Pentagon, the State Department, the National Security Adviser and other meetings and made sure we all understood our planning processes about what we were going to do in the face of a whole range of things. ».
