Annual film festival held in partnership with CineSesc, in São Paulo, the Mosfilm Exhibition of Soviet and Russian Film had the premiere date of the 8th edition postponed this week.
The event would be held between March 10 and 23 and is suspended until an “opportune moment”, CineSesc manager Gilson Packer told CNN.
“We’ve been organizing the show for six months and we didn’t imagine something like this could happen. We spoke with the producers and decided that it is not appropriate to hold the event at this time due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
According to Packer, Mosfilm’s proposal is to discuss the cinematographic profile of Russian cinema, “in general, always more delicate themes and showing society as a whole”. “War is a recurring theme in Russian cinema,” he adds.
The highlight of this edition, which will screen 16 feature films, is the 200th birthday of Russian writer Fyódor Dostoevsky, with the participation of classics such as “The Idiot” (1958), by Ivan Pyryev.
Another film participating in the exhibition is the “Liberation” series: five films by Yuri Ozerov, which have been restored and are considered references among war films. Produced between 1967 and 1971, the stories portray important moments of the Second World War.
Mosfilm still doesn’t have a definite date for it to happen and, according to Gilson Packer, it will be in the “near future”.
