Russian journalist who protested on TV against war is placed under house arrest

A Moscow court has placed the former state TV editor russian Marina Ovsyannikova under house arrest for two months while awaiting trial related to the professional’s protest against the war in Ukraine .

The information was released by the court’s press service in a statement on Thursday (11).

According to the note, Ovsyannikova was accused of spreading false news about the Russian military and was placed under house arrest until October 9.

The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison under Russian law.

Ovsyannikova, who once worked as an editor for Russian state TV Channel One, took a dramatic stand against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during a live broadcast in March when she burst into the studio and appeared behind an anchor with a sign that read: “No to war.”

She previously told CNN who had already received three fines totaling 120,000 rubles (about R$10,160) for his anti-war statements, including for allegedly “discrediting” the army in a Facebook post he posted on Russia Day, July 12.
