Russian long-range bombers hit Mariupol, says Ukrainian spokesman

Colonel Oleksandr Motuzianyk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said on Friday that Russian long-range bombers had hit the besieged city of Mariupol, Ukraine.

“On April 14, two Russian Tu-95/-160 strategic heavy bombers launched cruise missiles hitting the territory of Ukraine from Krasnodar Krai from Russian Federation airspace,” he said.

“Also for the first time since the beginning of the armed aggression bombs were dropped by a Tu-22M3 long-range bomber. This air strike took place, hitting Mariupol.”

Separately, Oleh Syniehubov, head of the military administration for the Kharkiv region, said on Friday that Ukrainian forces had shot down a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter, killing the Russian crew.

On Thursday (14), the UN humanitarian chief asked all parties [Rússia e Ucrânia] to provide safe passage for civilians out of the city, following the announcement that two aid workers and their families were killed.
