Russian ministry says country will expand trade with Asia after Western sanctions

Russia’s Economy Ministry said on Friday it was working on measures to minimize the effect of Western sanctions adopted after the country invaded Ukraine.

The ministry also said that it will intensify trade and economic ties with Asia.

“We understand that the sanctions pressure we have faced since 2014 will now intensify,” the ministry said.

“The rhetoric of some of our colleagues abroad has been such that we are ready for potential new sanctions for a long time to come.”

War in Ukraine

After days of escalating tensions and threats, Vladimir Putin’s Russia attacked Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday. Shortly after Putin authorized, in a televised address, a military operation in the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine, explosions and sirens were heard in several cities across the country.

Russia’s attacks against Ukraine entered the second day on Friday (25). Ukrainian officials said they were looking forward to the “hardest day of the war”. The capital Kiev awaits the arrival of Russian troops. The sirens went off again.
