One of the top commanders of the Russian paratrooper squadron was killed in Ukraine.
The death of Colonel Sergei Suharev, of the 331st Parachute Guard Regiment, has been confirmed by Moscow state television.
Earlier, his “neutralization” was announced by the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security of Ukraine: , the announcement said.
His deputy, Major Sergei Krylov, was killed along with him, reports said.
Both belonged to the Kostroma Regiment, considered one of Russia’s most elite military forces.
Russia has not announced the estimated death toll in Ukraine for more than two weeks.
There are allegations that it amounts to about 7,000 with suspicions that the actual number is being kept secret to prevent a drop in support in Russia. However, the daily report – including selected soldiers – shows that Russia is bleeding into a “military operation” allegedly fought to strengthen its security and “de-Nazify” Ukraine.
Moscow had developed the 331st Parachute Regiment previously in Chechnya in two wars after the fall of the USSR, in Georgia in 2008 and in Donbass in 2014. Suharev is considered by Ukrainians to have been responsible for the 2014 Ilovaisk massacre. in which hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers were killed.
