Russian politicians are gloating over the electoral defeat of Macron and Soltz

Russian politicians fumed today over the heavy defeats suffered by the parties of French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in European elections, and the Kremlin said right-wing parties were gaining strength in Europe. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the results also reflected, in part, the two leaders’ “incompetent policy” of supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia. “Time to resign. In the history closet!” Medvedev wrote on Platform X. Valentina Matvienko, head of the upper house of the Russian parliament, said Macron and Soltz “suffered a crushing defeat with their parties which once again confirms their failure as national and European politicians”. “Furthermore, in their case this is an outcome they deserve, as it results from many years of complete indifference to the real needs of the people and society,” she wrote on Telegram.
