Russian schoolchildren won the world championship in underwater robotics

CNews, citing its sources, today, July 8, reported that a team of Russian schoolchildren from the Robotics Development Center in Vladivostok confidently took first place in the International Underwater Robotics Competition called MATE ROV Competition. It is worth noting that this event was held in the USA, and although the Russian development team took part in an online format, this did not at all prevent Russian schoolchildren from becoming the absolute leader in the school category, as well as winning in three nominations at once – “Best mission completion”, “Best Technical Report” and “Best Poster”.

The composition of the Russian team Robocenter:

  • Andrey Grishchenko.
  • Maria Abramova.
  • Timur Mangliev.
  • Igor Murzin.
  • Svyatoslav Chaly.
  • Zakhar Nikolaev.
  • Alexander the Catholic.
  • Igor Bondarenko.
  • Tikhon Ipatov.
  • Vadim Sorin and Alexander Omelianenko are mentors.

The Russian team had to compete for victory in the MATE ROV Competition, which is unofficially considered the world championship in the ROV industry. This year the championship was held for the twentieth time, and only in the final stage more than sixty teams from fifteen countries of the world took part. The main objectives of this competition are dedicated to the UN sustainable development goals – we are talking about robots with marine renewable energy sources, the development of marine aquaculture and, importantly, the implementation of certain tasks in Antarctica to prevent changes in the Earth’s climate.

Schoolchildren from Russia were trained to win such a prestigious championship as part of the project of the NTI Club Movement “Engineering courses and competitions in marine robotics” – this project is aimed at training a new generation of technical specialists in the country.
