Russian shooter about an alternative USSR has already hit the journalists: how the Americans rated Atomic Heart

Yesterday, November 22, IGN published a preview of the video game Atomic Heart from the Russian studio Mundfish, in which journalists shared interesting details of the new project. The staff of the publication call the setting of the project a kind of mixture of Bioshock and Half-Life, but at the same time noted that the developers have introduced many new interesting elements and surprises that allow the project to look original against the backdrop of cult releases. For example, journalists believe that the game is not a corridor shooter, but it cannot be called an open world project either – the developers skillfully combine small locations with travel around the vast world.

Moreover, in addition to exploring the open world in search of points of interest and battles with enemies, there are also many puzzles in the game. And journalists note that although this element of the gameplay is quite interesting, the authors of the project do not turn the shooter into a full-fledged puzzle – the balance between game mechanics is maintained. In total, you will have to spend about twenty hours on a single-player campaign – the focus is on artificial intelligence, which is out of control and decided to destroy everything around. A classic story from science fiction, only beaten in the setting of the USSR.

Journalists also compare the game with Halo Infinite – the gamer has a large open world where you can move freely, but at the same time, you need to “go down to the dungeons” to complete tasks. Descending into a more compact location, the player will have to fight a variety of enemies and bosses, gradually learning the campaign and moving along the storyline. And although the authors of Atomic Heart did not reinvent the wheel in this regard, IGN staff really liked the variety of both basic opponents and enhanced bosses – they look extremely colorful, fit perfectly into the overall setting and make you work hard to win.

Separately, journalists praised the art style of the project, an interesting approach to the combination of hand-to-hand combat and the use of various firearms, plus a separate paragraph was devoted to a glove with magic. This is a unique element of the combat system that allows you to make significant changes on the battlefield – the element looks very impressive. Of course, this is not a full review, but just a first impression, but now IGN is ready to rate the project quite highly – great news for Russian developers.
