Russian spaceport Vostochny began to be guarded by a robot responsible for ground patrolling

The information publication “RBK” with reference to “Roskosmos” today, October 7, reported that at the Russian cosmodrome “Vostochny” they launched a stage of testing the robotic security platform “Marker”. This robot, as stated in the state corporation, will be engaged in ground patrolling of the complex – the “duties” of the device include identifying, identifying and intercepting intruders who have made their way to the perimeter of the protected area. Moreover, the device is capable of countering terrorist attacks and flights of unmanned aerial vehicles.

“We see the use of these complexes as part of security structures as devices that ensure the safety of spaceports, enterprises and other objects of state importance,” said Dmitry Rogozin, head of Roscosmos.

It is also worth noting that at the moment five models of these security robots have been developed at once, which are capable of working both under the direct control of a person and in a completely autonomous mode. Two models of robots are assembled on a wheeled chassis, the other three are on a tracked chassis. And, most interestingly, these technologies and developments are planned to be used not only on our planet – in the future, developments will make it possible to create robots for exploring the Moon and other planets in the solar system. Now the developers are working to improve the artificial intelligence so that robots can perform tasks not only alone, but also in a group.

More developers from the Foundation for Advanced Study said that the Marker robot is based on a modular architecture, on which you can install various units, devices for studying the terrain, additional units and more. And the robot also has an impressive advantage over humans – the “Marker” power reserve allows the robot to overcome 500 kilometers without refueling, it can work in any weather and without the need for rest.
