Russian state media mocks Biden and calls debate a “disastrous” reality show

The performance of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in the debate CNN Thursday’s (27) meeting with former President Donald Trump is being ridiculed in Russian state media, with experts questioning the state of his cognitive health.

The host of Russia-1’s state-run “60 Minutes” program, Olga Skabeeva, gave a critical and sarcastic analysis of the debate, dubbing it “an American reality show about the lives of pensioners” and describing the live broadcast as “disastrous ”.

On Friday (28), the Kremlin spokesman downplayed the importance of the Biden-Trump debate, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not watch it because “it is not on the list of the main issues on (Putin’s) agenda”.

Despite this, the debate received widespread coverage in Russian state media, with Skabeeva’s portrayal in line with the broader narrative. On Russia-1, Skabeeva described Biden as weak and mentally unstable, highlighting moments when he appeared to struggle.

The program also poked fun at the president’s physical condition, sarcastically noting that he managed to walk on stage without stumbling. “The old Biden walked on stage without stumbling or falling. In that sense, he did well,” Skabeeva said. In contrast, Trump was portrayed as more energetic.

Alexey Martynov, an associate professor at the Russian government’s Financial University, told state news agency RIA Novosti that the aim of the debate “was to show the United States and the whole world the absurdity of what was happening.”
