Russian submarine successfully tested the Kalibr missile, hitting a ground target for 1,000 km

The press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially announced the successful test of the Kalibr cruise missile, which was launched from the newest diesel submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. These tests took place in the Sea of Japan, and the missile itself was launched from a submerged position – this is part of a practice shooting, before which the submarine conducted a special tactical maneuver to invisibly exit the area to fire. Representatives of the Ministry of Defense said that the submarine completed all the planned stages of tests successfully, hitting a ground target.

“At the estimated time, the missile hit the coastal target position on the tactical field of Surkum. The firing range exceeded 1,000 kilometers, ”the Defense Ministry said in an official statement.

It should be noted that the newest submarine “Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky” is one of the first diesel-electric submarines capable of carrying Kalibr high-precision cruise missiles, according to the press service of the Eastern Military District. The Russian-made Caliber missiles themselves (these missiles were developed and produced by the Novator design bureau in Yekaterinburg) are universal sea-based weapons – they can hit both ground targets and ships or even mobile boats.
