Russian telecommunications regulator has today accused US giant Google and video giant YouTube of “terrorist” activities, the first step towards a possible blocking of the site, as has happened in recent weeks on Twitter, Instagram and many other media. information.
According to Roskomnadzor, YouTube users “broadcast advertisements calling for the cessation of railway communications in Russia and Belarus,” a country allied with Moscow from which it is a base for attacks in northern Ukraine.
“YouTube’s administration activities are terrorist in nature and threaten the lives and health of Russian citizens,” Roskomnadzor was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.
Denouncing Google’s “clearly anti-Russian stance”, the Russian authorities said they were urging the US company to “stop broadcasting anti-Russian videos as soon as possible”.
Russia has already blocked access to popular social networks Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and has filed a lawsuit against the Meta group, accusing it of spreading “murder calls” against Russians.
